There are many walks around the Broadland area, Angles Way, Peddars Way, Weavers Way and Wherrymans Way - most of these follow the old unused railway lines so are suitable for family walks with little or no traffic.

Bure Valley Railway Walk or Cycle |

Burlingham Circular Walk |

The circular walks (1mile, 2 miles and 3 miles) can be enjoyed by the visitor, their routes are colour coded and utilize both existing public footpaths and permissive paths. The trails pass through woodlands, fields and along a green lane.

Great and Little Plumstead Circular Walk |

This 5½ mile walk is around the Plumsteads that lay to the east of Norwich. Take the B1140 for approximately 4½ miles from the Norwich outer ringroad. Parking is available at the Little Plumstead Village Hall in Crowes Loke.

Halvergate Marshes Circular Walk |

Halvergate is 2 miles south of the A47 between Acle and Great Yarmouth. The whole of the 5 mile walk has panoramic views of the countryside. The route is mainly around the Halvergate marshes that have a bounty of wildlife (5 miles, about 2½ hours walking)

Potter Heigham Circular Walk |

|
5 ½ miles long, or 4 ½ miles if the shorter route is taken. Much of the walk follows the Weavers Way long distance route. The area between Candle Dike and Decoy Road is a National Nature Reserve and is looked after by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.

This attractive circular walk is approximately 4 miles long. It passes over the former Rackheath airfield which was opened as a base for B-24 Liberator bombers in 1944 and derequisitioned in the late 1950s.

There is an attractive 5 mile circular walk around Stalham and the surrounding countryside. The town itself is interesting, with many Georgian buildings and an inn dating from 1380. The walk goes past todays holiday boatyards, as well as the old staithe.

The Weavers Way crosses the large expanse of Halvergate Marshes, which are managed as traditional grazing meadows and are of international importance. The route across the marshes can often be quite wet so suitable footwear is recommended.

Leaving Thurne village the route joins the River Bure passing close to Oby and Clippesby Mills and then onwards to Acle. Acle village would have been in Roman times on the edge of an extensive estuary system, which is now part of the Halvergate Marshes.

You can walk the whole route or explore parts by cycle, train and river bus. Alternatively you can walk one of the ten circular walks enroute. Look out for the unique waymarkers, which include figures, sculpture, information panels and audio points.
